     The halls were quiet. Too quiet. It was bad enough slipping through the corridors at night undetected, but without her brothers' snoring there was nothing that could be counted on for background noise. Well, so much more the challenge! Leora gathered her long skirt so she wouldn't make noise walking up the stairs. She had gotten rather good at sneaking around the guards and considered it a proud skill since it was her father who had taught her. Her father. She wasn't 'allowed' in this wing during the day - and much less at night. She and all of her siblings had been banned from the north wing while their father was ill. It was frightening her - and not just her, either. The lost princess - perhaps rather the stolen princess? She had seen all day children and their families, their mothers and their fathers. Her mother had never treated her so gently, never looked at her with pride or joy in her eyes or such a smile on her face as she had seen the mothers there. It was so different - so very different. She had to be. Of course she had foolishly fallen into the dresser, thinking it had been closer to her than it had been. Mother was calling - and coming up the stairs. No. Not my mother. "Fwynn! Fwynn! Fwynn!" The two year old raced after her oldest brother.
"Mite, you stay and play."
"Nope. Come with you."
"Okay, fine." He rolled his eyes, picking her up and hoisting her onto his back. "Come on, mama needs me." He said, bouncing her along as he ran. His mother had called his name, but there was something so urgent in her voice. He couldn't be sure whether she had actually called him or not. Still, he was sure that he had not told his youngest sister a lie. It was pretty certain that she needed someone at that moment, and as they drew nearer to the sound of her voice still calling, a trickle of fear fingered his spine. His young nerves steeled themselves for what he might see, and he was suddenly certain that she had not called him.

Rapunzel sat upon the settee in her bedchamber, surrounded by stacks of newly arrived boxes from the seamstress containing yet more gowns to add to the stunning variety of walking dresses, riding habits, ball gowns, bonnets, shawls, long French kid gloves, and slippers that already filled every available storage space in her suite. "Your highness!" one of the maids gasped excitedly as she unwrapped a royal blue satin cloak with a wide hood, lined in ermine. "Have you ever seen anything so beautiful?"

"It's wonderful!" the princess exclaimed, without glancing up from the book in her hand "Her highness Gothel has an excellent taste."
